The United States Department of State has introduced an important update that benefits international students planning to pursue their education in the US. Starting from March 1st, 2023, aspiring F-1 student visa applicants are now permitted to initiate their application process up to 365 days ahead of their anticipated academic term commencement. In the past, F-1 visa candidates were constrained to scheduling their visa interviews within 120 days of obtaining their I-20 form. This form, provided by the chosen American university or college, confirms the applicant’s intention to enroll in their institution.

This progressive modification signifies that educational institutions can now issue I-20 forms and accept applications a substantial 12-14 months prior to the beginning of the academic term. This extended timeframe grants students more flexibility to navigate the visa application procedure. Nonetheless, it’s important to note that students are still restricted to entering the US on their visa within 30 days of their program’s initiation.
