Huddersfield London's new International Year One starts in January 2027 and leads to Year 2 of an undergraduate degree in September 2027. The programme is subject to approval, so read the details below before you plan around it.

1. What Is International Year One?
International Year One is a one-year entry route into a UK undergraduate degree, offered at the University of Huddersfield - London, which is one of WIEC's partner universities. According to the university, it helps you boost your English and academic skills and then progress to the second year of your undergraduate degree in London.
- Starts: January 2027.
- Length: two semesters.
- Moves on to: Year 2 of your chosen degree in September 2027, if you complete the programme with the required grades.
- The university's headline: "Graduate in less than 3 years". This is the university's own description of the route, and it depends on you passing the year with the grades needed to progress.
2. Pathways and What You Study
There are two pathways. Both include an Academic English Skills module that aims to bring you to the CEFR B2 level in reading, writing, listening and speaking that UK visa and university rules expect.
| Pathway | Modules | Progress to (Year 2) |
|---|---|---|
| Business Management | Academic English Skills; Accounting for Business Managers; Business and Global Dynamics; Introduction to Business Analytics; Markets and Marketing; Organisational Behaviour | Business Management BA (Hons) or International Business BA (Hons) |
| Computer Science | Academic English Skills; Computer Hardware; Computer Networks; Discrete Mathematics for Computer Science; Project Skills; Software Design and Development | Computer Science BSc (Hons) |
3. Who Might Find It Useful
- Students who want a UK degree in business or computing and would like help with English and academic study skills before entering Year 2.
- Students who missed the September intake and want to start in January rather than wait a full year.
- Students who prefer to study in London.
If you already meet the direct entry requirements for the degree itself, a foundation-style year may not be necessary. That is something a counsellor can check against your results and English score.
4. What You Need to Check Before You Apply
- "Subject to approval". The university marks this programme as subject to approval. Confirm the approval status before paying any deposit.
- Grades to progress. Progression to Year 2 needs "required grades". The programme page we checked does not list them, so ask the university in writing.
- Entry requirements and fees. The university has separate pages for these. We do not quote figures here because they can change; we will confirm the current ones for you.
- Visa and funds. A UK Student visa needs proof of tuition and living costs. London is higher than the rest of the UK. See our UK guide for the current figures.
- Post-study work. The UK Graduate visa rules are changing, and the length of your visa depends on when you apply and, from the latest Budget announcement, possibly on your university. Read our post on the 2-year Graduate visa for high-compliance universities.
No pathway programme can guarantee admission, progression, a visa or a job. Decisions are made by the university and the UK Home Office.
