Main options
- Chevening Scholarships. The UK government’s programme for future leaders, which Nepal takes part in. It funds a one-year master’s degree and living costs and requires at least two years of work experience and a return to Nepal afterwards. Applications open in the autumn and close early in November.
- University scholarships. Many universities give partial tuition awards to international applicants with high marks. Some require a separate form.
- Subject and country awards. Professional bodies, charities and departments sometimes fund specific subjects.
- PhD funding. UK research councils and universities fund studentships. Funded places are competitive, so contact supervisors early.
How to improve your chances
- Start 12 months before the course. Chevening needs references and essays that take time.
- Show leadership, networking and a clear plan for your return to Nepal.
- Apply for the university course early so that you are considered for its scholarships.
Be careful
Official scholarship programmes never charge an application fee. Apply directly on the official website.
Check before you rely on it. Scholarship rules, eligible countries and closing dates change every year. Rules, fees and dates are changed by governments often.
