Main options
- Australia Awards. Funded by the Australian government for students from partner countries, including Nepal. They usually cover tuition, living costs and health cover for a master’s degree and carry service and return conditions. Applications are made directly to the Australia Awards programme in Nepal, not through a consultancy.
- University merit scholarships. Most universities reduce tuition for strong applicants, commonly by 10% to 50% for the first year or the whole course. They are usually decided from your marks and English score at the time of your application.
- Research funding. A PhD or research master’s with a supervisor may come with a stipend and a fee waiver. Contact potential supervisors early with a short research proposal.
- Country and college awards. Some colleges give smaller grants or discounts for early payment or for a pathway to a degree.
How to improve your chances
- Apply early. Scholarship rounds close before the final application date.
- A higher IELTS or PTE score can unlock a better discount.
- Keep a clear academic story: marks, projects, work experience and a focused statement of purpose.
Be careful
A scholarship does not replace the financial proof for the visa unless the award letter says it covers the costs in full. Never pay anyone to “guarantee” a scholarship.
Check before you rely on it. Scholarship names, values and deadlines change every year. Rules, fees and dates are changed by governments often. We last reviewed this page in October 2026. Confirm the current position on the Australia Awards Nepal website or ask our counsellors, who check it again before your file is submitted.
