Main intakes
| Intake | Start | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Fall | September | The largest intake, with the most courses and awards. |
| Winter | January | Offered by most colleges and many universities; less choice at some. |
| Summer | May | Offered by a limited number of colleges and for selected courses. |
Application timeline
- 8–10 months before: shortlist courses, take IELTS or another accepted English test.
- 6–8 months: apply to colleges and universities. University deadlines for fall can be in the winter before.
- 4–6 months: receive the offer, pay the deposit and request the PAL if needed.
- 3–4 months: lodge the study permit with funds and study plan.
- 1–2 months: housing, flights, insurance.
Because the number of study permits is limited each year and processing times change, applying early reduces the risk of missing the intake.
Check before you rely on it. Each college and university sets its own deadline and the provinces release PAL numbers on their own schedule. Rules, fees and dates are changed by governments often.
